A History of Fun!

Circle of Rain was a band that was active from late 1989  through 1991. We got a remarkable amount of cool songs written and recorded in that time period. We performed a handful of times in the San Francisco Bay area and recorded a video session in Oakland, CA for a trial run of a show that was to signal the end of the reign. The video is very poor quality as it was recorded on a period Video 8 tape cam from a distance with that being the only sound input. It is still a great performance that is worth viewing (the sound is not bad though highly compressed from the cam). Here is a song collection that represents what is was all about. I will insert more stuff that was recorded but not formally concieved so to speak. Still great stuff.  Some songs (as notated) were just studio demos that were recorded with just me and a drum machine and or bass player to recruit a new singer in late 1989.

There was a transistion in that time from the former Deep Sleep which was created in 1986 with myself and Nancy being the songwriters doing much more etherial stuff but with an edge. With the culmination of Circle of Rain, it became more edgy with a male Lennon sytle vocalist but still somewhat etherial although more simplistic in style and compostion. I had a desire to regress to a more punky/poppy approach which was always a standard favorite sytle for me. Jim (the lead singer and major song writing influence) contributed a Beatlesk approach to my more hard core leanings. As Beatles were and are my solid inner core, I think that it was a very good marriage.

Here are some examples of tunes from this era:

No Time (1989 Demo for a new vocalist)  (Billy Idol  approach on guitars)

Time is on My Side (1990 Circle of Rain) (written by me with Jim's vocal approach)
